The Accessible London Coalition is a group of citizens with an interest in accessibility. We are a collection of people, some of whom have lived experience with accessibility issues; others who have spent a significant amount of time in advocacy roles, who want to reduce the amount of systemic ableism in the City of London, increase accessibility for all citizens, and ensure that London lives up to both the letter and spirit of legislation like the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act.
Many of us have experience on City committees, many of us have spent years trying to work with council to various degrees of success. We now hope to raise awareness of the importance of accessibility in this coming election and to provide candidates an equal opportunity to respond to questions about the issue.
We are not here to advocate, judge, or endorse any candidate. We are also not intending to revisit the past. However, we are providing all candidates the opportunity to respond to a questionnaire that we have developed to solicit their ideas, platforms, and intents around accessibility measures and reducing ableist structures in London.
What you see is what you get — warts and all. We will not be editing responses for spelling, grammar, or any other reason, so as to minimize the perceived influence we can have on their intent.
